Selling packaged products online? From August 2026, marketplaces check whether you are compliant on the environment.
The European PPWR regulation requires platforms such as eMAG or Trendyol, and courier companies, to check sellers' compliance with their environmental obligations for packaging. If you are not compliant, you risk having your sales blocked.

The recycling contribution: directly to AFM (2 lei/kg) or through a PRO, at a fee several times lower.

Frequently asked questions
I only sell a few hundred parcels a month. Does it concern me?
Yes. The obligations apply regardless of volume; there is no minimum exemption threshold. [TBD: legal check]
I use the manufacturer's packaging, I only resell. Do I still have obligations?
If you import or bring the products in from outside Romania, you are the one who "places them on the market", so yes. If you resell products bought in Romania, the obligation for the product packaging belongs to your supplier; for the shipping packaging you add, the obligation is yours. [TBD: legal check of wording]
What happens if I do nothing?
You remain non-compliant: you owe the AFM contribution retroactively, and from August 2026 the platforms can block your sales.
